Description
The OluKai Men’s Lae’Ahi Shoes are a durable mesh and water-resistant synthetic loafer with microfiber uppers providing beach-ready comfort and everyday casual style. The patented Drop-In heel design creates a shoe that can be worn as a loafer, and a slide, simply by tucking the heel down to create two styles in one easy wearing shoe. An EVA midsole gives this plenty of cushion and support, while an non-marking wet grip rubber provides traction. The Lae’Ahi also have razor siping in the soles; siping is the process of cutting thin slits across a rubber surface to improve traction in wet or icy conditions. Invented in 1923 by John F. Sipe one story is that Sipe was a deckhand who grew tired of slipping across a wet deck. He discovered cutting slits into the bottoms of his shoes provided better traction than the uncut tread. Today, siping is used on car tires, boat shoes, work boots, and OluKai’s Lae’Ahi for surer footing on decks and off. A nice casual summer shoe with style points and grip for decks, boat launches, boardwalks, and wandering across beaches, you get extra points if you also wear them for dancing in a spring rain!
